Designed by architects William Krisel and Dan Palmer, and built in 1958 for the Alexander Company, this private three bedroom, two bath Palm Springs vacation rental home has been thoughtfully updated and restored to showcase its original attributes: exposed beam ceilings, wide expanses of glass, open floor plan — even the carport.
This intimate, perfectly proportioned home is an architectural celebration of freedom, fluidity and linear simplicity.
The warm décor of the living area incorporates furnishings designed by 50's icons Eames, Nelson, and Noguchi. Walls of glass bring the outdoors in, and at night, the desert garden landscape, pool and spa are lit and shimmering.
Each of the three bedrooms - bathed in soothing desert tones and lush with luxury hotel bedding - is private, comfortable and quiet. The bathrooms are clad in mosaic tile with showers showcased by frameless glass. The fully equipped kitchen echoes the theme with mosaic tile the color of blue agave, and practical concrete counters.
An eat-in bar with stools for two overlooks an array of new stainless appliances, including an indoor downdraft gas grill by Jenn Air. (There's also a Weber charcoal grill outside.)
Outdoors, a river rock arroyo frames the spacious pool, built-in spa and dual tanning decks, all rimmed in barrel cactus and blue agave.
With sweeping views of the San Jacinto Mountains and neighboring palms, the orientation of this stunning Palm Springs vacation residence allows for maximum sun exposure.
The sleek Sunbrella lanai provides an oasis of perpetual shade adjacent to the home, made even cooler with outdoor air-conditioning.
